Devon Mind

If you're experiencing a mental health problem, it can often feel difficult to figure out who to ask for help. Devon Mind is here to listen, advise, and help you take the first steps to a life with better mental health. 

What we offer

• Support to develop skills and strategies to enable you to work towards improving your emotional wellbeing
• Tailored, person-centred, strength-based 1:1 support
• Short-term support, approximately 8 sessions
• Support with recognising and managing emotions that can include struggling with anxiety, anger, shame, and guilt
• Support around isolation and avoidance behaviours
• Support with developing confidence and building resilience
• Support the development of self-help strategies by identifying possible triggers and using tools including CBT strategies, wellness recovery action plans, and grounding and mindfulness techniques
• Support recognising the importance of self-care and compassion
• Support with linking into local community activities and services
• Collaborate with other services that may be supporting you to try and ensure that support is coordinated and meeting your needs

What we don't offer

• Immediate crisis support and response
• Support with medical diagnosis 
• Information and advice relating to medication
• Acute therapy sessions
• Long-term support (our offer covers around 8 sessions)

Our current support services

Support groups

We run a number of monthly support groups for men, women, and people experiencing particular mental health problems. All our groups currently take place in Plymouth.

Courses and workshops

We run a number of weekly courses and bespoke workshops on a variety of subjects. 

Counselling

Our counselling service offers between 8 and 12 sessions of solution-based therapy with a distinct goal in mind. We charge a small fee of £30 per session for counselling.

Devon Mind is an independent charity, and we are very proud to be affiliated with the Mind group. This includes around 120 local Mind associations across England and Wales and many Mind shops.  Devon Mind has evolved from Plymouth & District Mind so that we can offer support to more people across Devon.
