If you are suffering with obesity and would like support, the Weight Management service is a service that can help. To access the program, you must be a Plymouth resident with a BMI of over 40 or over 35 with other medical problems. If your referral is accepted, you will receive informative induction videos that will give you detailed information about what you can expect from the service. If you choose to opt in, you will be offered a face-to-face initial assessment appointment with a health improvement practitioner to discuss your needs and next steps.
The specialist team, which includes nurses, dietitians, health improvement practitioners, physiotherapists, a clinical psychology team, and consultants, will support you with lifestyle changes during a virtual group-based program. We take a holistic approach, encouraging activity, changing eating habits, and looking at how thinking or feeling affects our eating. This service is not available to people under the age of 18, those who are pregnant, people who are not mobile, or those who are unwilling or unable to take part in group sessions.
If you are interested in being referred for support from the weight management service, please contact your GP, consultant, or specialist nurse. If you do not meet the criteria for the weight management service, you may be more suited to the One You Plymouth Eat Well programme.
Bariatric surgery
If you would like to be considered for bariatric surgery, you will first need to be referred to our service by your GP.
During your time in our service, you will be assessed and evaluated by your weight management clinician and the team for your appropriateness and readiness for surgery. There are many factors that need careful consideration before a referral for bariatric surgery can be made. We will be working together to support you during this process.
