Navigating the healthcare system can be challenging for anyone, but if you are a person with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or a parent or carer of someone with SEND in Plymouth, you may face additional hurdles.

We understand that being on a health waiting list can be a difficult time.

Created by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and Livewell Southwest, and following conversations with people who use the services, the following information and support might be helpful for those people currently on a health waiting list.

We have
  • Installed QR codes in our reception and waiting areas, which link you to helpful resources.
  • Created an underwater theme in the waiting room.
  • Added more guidance to the waiting room.

You asked for more information before your appointment and within the waiting areas.
We have
  • Supported our School Nurses and Health Visitors so that they have access to up-to-date information and can signpost you to relevant resources within the city.
  • Ensured that our Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) also have access to up-to-date information and can signpost you to relevant resources within the city.
  • Updated the Children's Speech and Language Service website.
  • Partnered with Kooth, The Zone, Plymouth Parent Carer Voice.
  • Created the Learning Disability and Autism Programme (LDAP).

  • Improved our help and advice phone lines:

    CAMHS Early Help Advice Line: Call 01752 431613

    CAMHS IBST can now provide one-to-one support.

    Speech and Language Service: Call 01752 434844 to request help.
  • Made it easier to access Chat Health. It's safe and easy for you to speak to a qualified health professional. Just send a message, you don't have to give your name.

    Young Person Understanding My Autism Group: A group for teenagers exploring autism.

    ADHD Parent Group: Support and education for parents of children with ADHD.

    Mental Health Support for Young People with Learning Disabilities: Provided within Plymouth special needs schools.

    Psychoeducational Support After Diagnosis: Information and support following a diagnosis.
