Beckly Centre - Routeways

We offer short breaks and respite care for disabled children and young people in Plymouth.

Beckly is a Routeways project that enables disabled children and young people to participate in and enjoy positive inclusive and fun social activities in a friendly, caring and supportive environment based at the accessible premises at Radford, Plymstock, Plymouth.

Beckly also facilitates short breaks for families and carers which support the well being of the whole family.

Regular weekend and evening activity sessions through the year with additional weekday playscheme sessions during all the school holidays offering opportunities to join in, in small groups, with a wide range of play, social and practical activities both at Beckly and in the wider community.

All activities and session are OPEN access to all and are available to those living in Plymouth and all of the surrounding areas with an age range from 6 to 25 years in mixed ability/ capacity / age groups.

Evening sessions are run on a drop in basis but for weekend and holiday playschemes then pre registration and advance booking are essential

Beckly is able to cater for a broad spectrum of additional or special requirements, disabilities and conditions and services provided can include personal care and in house one to one support is available.

Beckly Centre 1

Beckly provides play, social and informal learning opportunities for children and young people aged between 6 and 25 in small mixed capacity / age / ability groups. 

Sessions operate at weekends throughout the year and on weekdays in school holidays from accessible premises in Plymstock. Each session has a theme and a mix of activities will be offered to encourage participation, social interaction and engagement and developing personal skills and independence. Programmes with dates and details are available from the Beckly Office and sessions can be booked as and when families need.

All activities are offered on an open access basis so that families can self refer and book sessions directly with us but we also accept placements funded through the Local Authority or other agencies as part of care packages. Childcare Vouchers are also accepted

Specialist resources such a dedicated changing area with overhead hoisting is available alongside a good range of play and activity equipment including a soft play area, a well equipped sensory space with fibre optics, bubble tube and music together with a large kitchen area. The premises are adjacent to Radford Park and Woods for outdoor activities.

A range of conditions can be accommodated and services such as full personal care, tube feeding and administration of medications are available. We recommend families contacting the Beckly Office to discuss individual levels of need and to ensure that these can be appropriately met.

Additional or one to one support can be available through Routeways at an additional charge per session or we are happy to discuss attendance supported by personal assistants

There is also capacity with our premises and programme to run new / alternative specific interest or single condition groups or varying age ranges subject to sufficient interest and numbers to make any activity viable, enjoyable and practical to operate so if you are looking for something more particular or different to what is currently available please contact us.

    Additional notes

    The Beckly service is open to all children and young people living in Plymouth and in the surrounding areas including West/South Devon/East Cornwall;

    Minimum age is 6 and is available up to 25 with a separate evening group for Adults

    All sessions operate on a mixed ability/age/capacity group basis focusing on social interaction and engagement.

    Places for siblings available at reduce cost when attending together.

    Single or one off bookings accepted once registration has been completed.

    Open access to services, families can self refer visits welcomed and trial sessions offered. Activiites can be booked as and when required by families although payment in advance is requested on booking. Wide range of conditions and specific needs can be accommodated. Children and young people needing extra support can attend with their own enabler or Beckly can provide a one to one worker for the session at an additional charge. Services can also be provided as part of Local Authority or other agencies funded care packages please contact to discuss
