PL6 8AA
The home is situated in the Derriford area of Plymouth, close to Derriford Hospital, and is on a main bus route to Plymouth city centre.
It is a large, adapted old house with a modern, purpose-built, single-story extension. The 'main house' has two floors that have client accommodation with access to the first floor via a stair lift. The home currently has no passenger lift, but the first stage of the new extension is nearing completion, and this incorporates a shaft lift that will stop at each floor that clients are accommodated on. The home is tastefully decorated, and the furnishings are of good quality.
There is good provision of equipment for the disabled and those needing support, such as a wheel in a large shower room, a good-sized disabled bathroom, mobile hoists, and en-suite facilities in most bedrooms. Externally, there is a well-maintained patio and garden area that has a mix of shrubs, and gravel areas with attractive potted plants.
Accommodation
Down House has 28 single bedrooms, all with en-suite toilets, and five double rooms for couples or friends. All meet and exceed current national minimum standards in all respects, including sizes and facilities. We are modernising every room by installing new nurse call, telephone, internet, and television systems in all rooms. Lockable storage is available in all rooms, and door locks and keys are available on request.
Facilities
Currently, we have a large sun lounge and a smaller television lounge. A new height adjustable bath has been installed, making bathing safer for clients and staff. The home is currently undergoing refurbishment, which will improve its facilities for the benefit of all.
Day Care
We can provide day care services upon request. Transport and meals can be provided at cost, or clients can make their own arrangements.
Respite Care
We do accept respite care bookings, subject to availability. This service is for clients wanting to visit Plymouth or for families who need a caring break.
