Day Opportunities

• Life and home skills
  Learn or improve your home skills at the i-grow house, practicing cooking and other home management tasks.
• Keep active and fit
  Take part in sports and games, including Boccia and basketball at the Life Centre, golf at Boringdon, or join the Heartbeat Gym.
• Be creative
  Relax and enjoy some art and design, sewing, and wool crafts, or maybe try some other art and craft or creative writing project of your choice.
• Know about your environment
  Have a go at furniture upcycling. Create and look after a small garden, or enjoy some wildlife projects.
• Use assistive technology to gain knowledge
  Develop new life skills using the latest technology, such as iPads, tablets, iPhones, and computers.
• Know your community
  Access local facilities and events, Use the city bus, go walking, try some photography, and find out more about Plymouth and what it can offer.

Respite Services

We provide respite services at our i-Grow skills house.

We use the house to increasethe number of independent living schools for those who are looking to move into supported living in the future.

Current projects 

The Involve Project worked with individuals with autism, their parents or carers, organisations, and an animated theatre company to produce a Skills-Led Needs Assessment Toolkit. Training on the toolkit was delivered and included live theatre performances showing life from the person's perspective.

The Inspire Project, working in collaboration with Plymouth Highbury Trust, provides training and mentoring so that staff are confident and skilled to use technologies while supporting people. Using the Skills for Care Culture Toolkit to support change, embed personalisation, new ways of working, and person-centred approaches, and using our expert knowledge, we have up-skilled staff and given them the confidence necessary to use technology on a daily basis.

The Assistive Technology project, working in partnership with St. Luke's Hospice, demonstrated how using assistive technology can enable choice, dignity, and independence in palliative and end-of-life care. The project highlighted the need for effective communication skills in supporting end-of-life care, including those with dementia, learning disabilities, & other specific communication needs.
