Wellbeing

Our counselling services and training are nationally respected, and we have a long history of offering effective early help to many young people.

Our wellbeing services are offered in our centres, where young people can meet privately with one of our highly skilled team of counsellors. We work closely with schools across Devon and Plymouth, providing counselling for young people and training for staff.

Where young people are looking for help online, we have developed a close working relationship with Kooth, who specialises in online counselling.

Young Devon has been offering help for over 20 years. Our staff is hugely experienced and will listen, help, and never judge. With specialist teams, we have the resources that young people need to help them come to terms with the challenges that they face.

Skills

Grow in confidence and learn new skills with Young Devon.

We give young people the chance to thrive by developing the 'soft' and 'hard' skills that they need.

We offer free training for young people through our Change Academy centres, delivering a range of qualifications that provide young people with a progression route into work or higher-level training. Young people can access short and long courses, learning skills for life, gaining valuable work experience with local businesses, and grasping greater career opportunities.

All programmes are delivered in a way that engages, supports, and challenges the learners and takes into account their personal circumstances. Learners are provided with regular 1-2-1's and pastoral support, ensuring the successful completion of the course and the fulfilment of the next steps.

Voice

Young people are best placed to know about the challenges they face and the best solutions for them.

Young Devon places young people at the centre of its services. We work in partnership with them to make sure that their voices are heard by the people making decisions.

Our own services are led and owned in partnership with young people, and their voice sits at the centre of service planning, evaluation, and delivery. We will continue to support and lead other partners and organisations in ensuring that young people's voices are heard.

Accommodation

A safe place to call home is possibly the most critical thing that young people who are in crisis might need.

We are here to help young people develop resilience; this is much harder to do without the sense of security and support that a place to call home offers.

From young people with high needs to those with much lower needs who are ready to move into their own tenancies, our supported housing and supported lodging projects provide young people with secure homes and support to help them thrive.

We are committed to improving the range, quality, and amount of accommodation that we can offer to young people.

If we can stop a young person from becoming homeless, we will do everything that we can to do that.

One of our most profound challenges is supporting young people in very chaotic situations. There is an expectation that we can help them develop a sense of stability and independence in less than a year or eighteen months, even when the situations that have brought about that sense of chaos may have persisted for years or even a lifetime.

Our accommodation services promote choice and allow us to spend a longer period of time supporting young people to live successful, independent lives.
