Carers Rights Day

Carers Rights Day is our annual campaign to raise awareness of carers' current rights and entitlements, as well as calling for further rights.

This year, Carers Rights Day is on Thursday 23 November and the theme is 'Your rights: today, tomorrow and in the future'.

If you are an unpaid carer, you're entitled to certain rights which may help you access services, look after your health and wellbeing or provide vital information and support in looking after your partner, a family member or a friend.

Carers UK constantly fights for better rights for the UK's unpaid carers, including securing landmark new rights for those juggling work with their caring responsibilities. And we'll carry on fighting to see new or improved rights established, to help make life better for carers.

Young Carers Steering Group

The Young Carers Steering Group in Devon is a group made up of different professionals all working together to create change for young carers in Devon.

Three of our top priorities as a group are:

  1. Voice and visibility of young carers.
  2. Supporting organisations and professionals to better support young carers.
  3. Improve life chances for young carers.

As part of our work, we produce our quarterly newsletter. We are asking everyone to take the time to read this edition.  It will take you about 10 minutes to read.

The newsletter will support readers to:

  • Gain access to free resources.
  • Hear from young carers directly about changes they feel are needed and their experiences.
  • Find out the latest top tips and news.
  • Learn about examples of best practices supporting young carers in Devon.
  • Celebrate examples of good practice in Devon which is supporting our young carers with us.
  • Commit to change and to taking action for young carers. Consider what you and your team could change or improve within your practice and your organisation's practice to make a difference for young carers in Devon.

We also ask for your support in sharing this communication and the link to our newsletter above with other individuals, colleagues, groups and organisations you work with and who you feel would find this helpful.

Your views are important to us, and we want to hear from you. Please tell us what you think.

If you would be interested in becoming a member of the Young Carers Steering Group please email a request to the Children's Commissioning mailbox childrenscommissioningsecure-mailbox@devon.gov.uk marked for the attention of Jade Torr.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
