Marine Part Opportunities

Spaces are now open for the Marine Park Opportunity!

If you're between the ages of 16 to 25 and want to experience the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park in a new and exciting way, then "Meet the Marine Park" is for you.

"Meet the Marine Park" is a fully-funded 3-day experience for up to 25 (16 to 25) young people. It's completely free!

Part One: Meet the Marine Park experience

Meet the Marine Park is a fully-funded 3-day experience for up to 25 young people. On 27 October, all 25 project participants will begin the first of three days of activity (27, 28 and 29 of October), with each completing a different programme on each of the days.

  • 27 October - Discover Britain's Ocean City
  • 28 October - Island and Sound Explorer
  • 29 October - Marine Park Trail

Part Two: Work Placement opportunities

Upon completion of the Meet the Marine park experience, young people will be allowed to complete a 3-day volunteer placement with the National Marine Aquarium Schools and Public engagement teams. These opportunities can include:

  • Hosting the National Marine Aquarium and engaging our visitors with the Ocean
  • Joining us on our outreach experiences giving back to the local community
  • Helping with our schools' visits to the Aquarium

Young people with an interest in continuing their experience will be invited to become Marine Park Ambassadors with the National Marine Park. Marine Park Ambassadors will be enrolled on a further training schedule which will include:

  • Full CREW Presenter training. (Communication & engagement training, focusing on self-confidence and self-esteem development)
  • VR training - a two-day course focusing on the skills and knowledge required to operate the OCT VR suite with public and school audiences.
  • Free Aquarium Access

The programme is available for young people aged 16-25, who are residents in the City of Plymouth. There are no additional restraints on eligibility. Please pass this on to anyone you think would be interested in joining us!

Graduated Response

The Plymouth Online Directory (POD) contains the information on the Local Offer relating to the SENCO Guide to the Graduated Approach to Inclusion (GATI).

The GATI is guidance that supports the ongoing implantation of the Code of Practice in our local area.

The responsibility of all schools is to pay regard to the GATI. This means that school staff must be aware of each document and be prepared to use them where necessary.

The GATI documents are designed to facilitate planning with the pupil at the centre and it is anticipated that schools will use the aspects of the guidance that are most relevant for each pupil.

Young Carers Action Day

The next Young Carers Action Day will take place on 16 March 2022.

Is your school, organisation or group planning any special events to mark Young Carers Action Day?

We would like to hear about the planned activities happening across the city to share across our local networks through this newsletter.

Please email Time4U@plymouth.gov.uk
