Young Carers Summer Activity Programme

The Community Youth Service are arranging fun activities for young carers over the summer holidays including go karting, laser tag, Dartmoor Zoo, bowling and more.

If you know of any young carers who would like to be involved, please email time4u@plymouth.gov.uk.

Young Carers NHS Health Champion

Plymouth Young Carers have had the privilege to be involved in the CYP COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake Hesitancy Roundtable with the COVID-19 Minister Nadhim Zahawi on the 30th of June.

Laura Redman from Plymouth Young Carers group was one of the representatives from the Young Carers NHS Health Champions attending the meeting. Questions to be discussed in the meeting were shared with attendees beforehand so responses could be considered and organised for the meeting.

The set questions discussed were around barriers, attitudes, uncertainty and perception around the COVID -19 Vaccines.

There were 18 young people attending the event from various NHS youth forums, not everyone would have a chance to speak so they were encouraged to type in responses into the chat bar, so everyone's voice was heard.

The event went well and young people readily voiced their thoughts and opinions on vaccine hesitancy and what the best way to engage with young people, especially those who are hard to reach or hesitant.

Free holiday clubs over the summer break

Children throughout Plymouth may be eligible for a free holiday clubs programme over the summer break.

The Department for Education is supporting Plymouth's Fit and Fed programme, which aims to help families with children aged five to 16 years old that currently receive benefits-related free school meals.

As well as providing children with a healthy nutritious lunch, the holiday clubs also include a wide range of different activities including sport, music, dance, drama, art, cooking and science.

Fit and Fed will be delivered by a mix of holiday club providers such as Argyle Community Trust, Fit for Sport, Hamoaze House, the Mount Batten Centre and the National Marine Aquarium, amongst others.
