Horizons Children's Sailing Charity

Horizons is a registered children's sailing charity based in Plymouth.

Our aim is to help disadvantaged and disabled children from the inner city communities.

We provide learning and educational opportunities that increase self-confidence and improve social and practical skills, through water-based activities that would normally be beyond the means of these children.

Every year, we run over 3,000 individual sessions involving hundreds of young people aged 8 to 19, and everyone is welcome!

We also provide an evening and weekend sailing club for local youngsters. Many are very local and walk straight from school. After some basic instruction, they can enjoy recreational sailing using a variety of craft around the local area and in Plymouth Sound, with safety cover provided.

Using the Mitchell 31, a purpose-built power boat named Friendship of Plymouth, and our three Hawk 20 unsinkable sailing keel boats, we offer a facility that enables disabled people to gain access to the water and if able, to helm and crew both craft.

The Mitchell 31 work boat has been built with a specific provision for people with profound physical disabilities. This enables us to secure up to 5 wheelchairs on deck including one at the steering position!

Plymouth uses an orange 'Local Offer icon' to show services that define themselves as suitable for children and young people with SEND. These are part of Plymouth's SEND Local Offer. We recommend that you contact the service provider to make sure the service is suitable for your child or young person.
