Short Breaks: Sessions for young people with disabilities

The Community Trust delivers short break sessions for young people with disabilities throughout the summer holidays.Short breaks involve fun-filled football sessions, stadium tours, smoothie making, table tennis, Wii Fit activities, games consoles, and many more fun activities.

Working closely in partnership with Plymouth City Council, the Trust aims to give carers respite but also to offer new opportunities to young people they may never have experienced in the past. Each day sees the youngsters taking part in fun-filled sport sessions aimed at improving their basic skills while making new friends.

The courses, full of mini-games and technique workshops, see each participant work with Argyle coaches, giving them a unique experience of what it is like to be a professional 'Pilgrim'.To compliment practical sports sessions, each participant takes part in exciting workshops aimed at improving their understanding of both the game and the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Skills that will be introduced include smoothie-making classes, kit design, and basic first aid tips.

Every player counts

Through the Every Player Counts programme, our aim is to increase participation levels for all. The trust is working with all SEN schools in Plymouth and supporting organisations to help increase activities for all.

We have recently introduced dedicated football roadshows for players with disabilities during the school holidays, as well as specific monthly sessions for Down's Syndrome footballers. Active Argyle programmes are open to people with any disability or learning difficulty who would like to be involved in sport and involve several different sports and activities.
