At Stourhead, our residential services are dedicated to empowering young people by enhancing their social, emotional, independence, and functional skills. We aim to equip them with effective coping mechanisms for the future, fostering resilience and overall well-being.

We are committed to ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to grow, develop, and receive an education that paves the way for a successful and fulfilling future. Therefore, all of our children's homes provide educational support through either a Stourhead Education specialist school and college or other education providers. We tailor courses and classes to meet each individual's unique needs, abilities, and educational levels.

From the initial referral stage, we collaborate with families, carers, commissioners, stakeholders, and the young person to determine the most suitable residential care placement. Our goal is to find a placement that fully meets their needs and offers the highest level of support.

Who we can support

We offer support to young people aged 8 to 18 who may have a range of complex social, emotional, educational, and behavioural needs, including:

  • Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Sexually harmful behaviour and risk of offending
  • Risk of child sexual exploitation (CSE)
  • Complex emotional trauma
  • Moderate learning disabilities
  • Attachment disorder
  • Autism/Asperger syndrome
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Developmental delay
  • Past criminal and antisocial behaviours
  • Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD)
  • Conduct disorder

Evidence-based therapeutic input

Some of our homes provide evidence-based therapeutic support, either on-site or within an appropriate educational setting. We recognise that each child is unique, so our therapeutic solutions are tailored specifically to their individual needs. The aim of our therapy is to help young people overcome their limitations and develop essential skills for the future, leading to greater independence and self-sufficiency.

Our therapeutic techniques may include:

  • Speech and language therapy (SaLT)
  • Occupational therapy
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT)
  • Play therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy

We also offer specialised therapeutic services through partnerships, such as those with Barnardo's. These include:

  • The Good Lives Model, designed to support young people with sexually harmful behaviours and females at risk of CSE
  • The CSSO Model (Child Directed, Systems Focused, Strengths Based, Outcome Informed)

Activities

Beyond therapeutic support, we encourage young people to engage in a variety of activities and pursue their interests. Each individual's care package is tailored to include activities that are important to them, such as:

  • Passing driving tests
  • Joining sports teams and outdoor activities
  • Learning trades like mechanics

These activities help build independence, social skills, and resilience, laying the groundwork for a healthy and rewarding future.

High-quality facilities and homely environments

Our residential homes are designed to be comfortable, welcoming, and homely, ensuring that young people feel safe and cared for. We offer:

  • Single-occupancy bedrooms, most with en-suite facilities for privacy and tranquillity
  • Spacious living areas for relaxation
  • Communal dining rooms for social interaction
  • On-site chefs or housekeepers (depending on home size) who provide nutritious meals catering to dietary needs, or staff and residents contributing to meal preparation
  • Sensory rooms and specialist equipment to meet individual needs
  • Equipment for sports and other activities

Highly skilled teams

Our multidisciplinary teams consist of highly skilled professionals committed to enhancing the lives of young people. We ensure our staff are diverse, experienced, and undergo a thorough recruitment process. Continuous training covers all essential aspects of their roles, ensuring they are knowledgeable, adaptable, and dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our young people.
