At Yourway, we have bags of experience in helping in situations like yours. While the needs of individuals are always different, we bring the same compassion and dedication to every role.

How we can help you

Short breaks

Everyone needs a break from the routine from time to time. For carers of people with disabilities, this can be especially important—it can be a highly challenging role that demands a huge amount of your time and energy. We can organise trips away that meet the specific needs of the person you care for and get you where you want to be.

  • Residential: Where the person you care for after goes for a short stay at Yourway's short break house, Belair Road.
  • Day-sitting service: Gives you a break to go shopping, meet up with friends, or have time for yourself.
  • Night sitting: Someone will come into your home to allow you to have a proper night's sleep
  • Day care: Where the person you are looking after goes to a day centre or takes part in activities away from home, giving you a break from caring.
  • Holidays: Help and support when you want to go on holiday by yourself or with the person you look after. We also encourage people to have a holiday independently or as part of a group.

There are numerous possibilities for planning a short breakthrough Yourway. We can organise a stay in a hotel or a holiday park. It might be a family trip to a theme park or a visitor attraction of your choice. It may be for one night, or perhaps a break for a few days.

We can arrange for you to travel with your person in your care, with care support in place for them. Or you may feel that you need a break without them for a couple of days, in which case we can set up care cover during your time away.

We can arrange for you to go to a destination in Devon or farther afield in the UK, as your needs allow. You can request a location or ask our staff to suggest places they know work well.

In some cases, you might need a full break from your caring role to fully rest and recover. We can arrange to meet the full needs of the person in your care while you are away, but it's important to be accessible in case of emergency.

If you think you might be entitled to a funded short break, contact your local authority for an assessment—or ask during your carer's assessment or the care assessment for the person you support.

Supported living

As an adult, having a home of your own provides comfort, freedom, and self-esteem. But for many people living with mental disabilities or mental health difficulties, the challenges can be too big. Yourway works with people in Plymouth to bridge the gap in their domestic needs, providing day-to-day support to help them live successfully in their own home.

Everyone living with disability is different. Yourway can tailor and scale our input to match a client's individual needs. We can provide support overnight from either waking or sleeping staff. And by day, we can support clients in their home, out in the community, or while using group services. Whether support is needed for a few hours a day or around the clock, we'll be there.

We assist with all those essential day-to-day tasks. We attend to personal care, household chores such as cooking and cleaning, and administrative tasks like budgeting and banking. And we can help if a person has a work role or wishes to take part in leisure activities. Taking our cues from the client's adult social care support plan, we ensure they enjoy life's opportunities while living in their own home

Enabling

For clients who live at home or with family in Plymouth, our enablement service can step in where additional support is needed. This can involve helping with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and managing finances. We can also help with activities out in the community, like shopping or attending groups—building skills and boosting confidence along the way.

There's no single formula for our Enablement Service. We work with clients who have a wide array of challenges and aspirations. Some clients live with lifelong learning disabilities, while others are working through a period of mental illness. Others are coping with the impact of early-stage dementia.

Whatever a client's situation, our role is to assist in the areas where help is needed—whether that means input with domestic demands or assistance with getting out and about. We're here to empower people so that they feel productive and fulfilled, with a better quality of life.

Respite

Taking care of a person with mental health needs can be an exhausting role. Respite allows you to get away overnight—to stay at our dedicated respite house in Plymouth or at a location you choose. Our team provides care and support, giving carers or parents of clients a break from their responsibilities and a much-needed rest.

Our respite stays are suited to people and families in a wide variety of circumstances. You might be a parent of a child living with a mental disability or perhaps a carer for an adult mental health service user. We're here to give you relief from your caring duties during your stay, allowing you to rest, relax, and refresh.

Yourway operates a dedicated respite house in Peverell, Plymouth. This is where our respite services usually take place. The property must be booked in advance, and it has all the comforts and facilities you need for a restful break from home, with dedicated staff on hand to provide support.

Day services

Our day services provide a safe and stimulating environment where people with learning disabilities can socialise, learn new skills, and access support. They take place at our Plymouth studio and are a valued part of many people's weekly routine.

Our regular day groups provide an excellent opportunity for those with learning disabilities or mental health issues to meet people and form friendships. They also involve a diverse mix of activities and training - from taking part in creative pursuits to building essential life skills.

Activity calendar

At Yourway, we host a wide variety of one-off events and activities at our Plymouth studio and out in the community. These are brilliant opportunities for people living with mental disabilities to connect, learn, meet people, and enjoy enriching experiences.

Built to help

Yourway has run for over 25 years, and we draw on a wealth of know-how and resources. The people who run our services are skilled, trusted mental health care practitioners. And our studio and respite house in Plymouth are set up with the needs of our clients considered first and foremost.

So whatever learning disability or mental health condition our clients live with, we have the experience and expertise to respond to their needs with confidence and understanding.

Client centred

Our vision is to help create a society where people are treated as equals, regardless of ability. We believe in supporting people to enjoy a life where they have choice and as much independence as possible, with every opportunity to be healthy, happy, and actively engaged in society.

This can't happen with one-size-fits-all solutions. That's why we work to tailor every service to individual needs and aspirations. We listen to what our clients want, and we do everything we can to help them achieve it.
