To enrol your child in a Plymouth nursery, infant, primary, junior, secondary, Key Stage 4, sixth form, or transfer school mid-year, you must submit an application.

Applying online is the easiest option, in most cases.

If you want to apply for a school place at a nursery school, you must apply directly to the nursery school.

Apply for an infant or primary (reception or foundation) school place

If you live in Plymouth, you can apply online for a primary or infant reception/foundation school place for your child.

Once you've created an account through the Citizen Portal, you can apply to up to three schools (your first, second, and third preferences).

Apply for a junior (year 3) school place

If you live in Plymouth, you can apply online for a junior school place for your child.

Once you have created an account through the Citizen Portal, you can apply for up to three schools (your first, second, and third preferences).

Apply for a secondary (year 7) school place

If you live in Plymouth, you can apply online for a secondary (year 7) school place for your child.

Once you've created an account through the Citizen Portal, you can apply to up to three schools (your first, second, and third preferences).

Apply for a key stage 4 (years 9 or 10) place

If you live in Plymouth, you can apply online for a key stage 4 (years 9 or 10) school place for your child. You need to read the individual school's admission arrangements to see what year they accept children from.

Once you've created an account through the Citizen Portal, you can apply for up to three schools (your first, second, and third preferences).

Apply for a sixth-form (years 12 or 13) school place

If you want to apply for a school place in sixth grade (years 12 or 13), you must apply to the school directly.

Apply for an in-year school transfer school place

If your child is already at school and you want a transfer to Plymouth, you can apply using the in-year school transfer application.

You can apply to up to three schools (your first, second, and third preferences). Some schools (mainly faith schools) also ask you to complete additional paper forms that must be sent directly to them.

Don't forget to

  • Check to see if the school has an open day that you can attend.
  • Ask the headteacher for advice and information on the school, or book an appointment to visit the school.
  • Visit the school's website; most will have a prospectus that gives more information about the school.
