Inclusive Mediation

We know that legal action can sometimes be overwhelming, especially at stressful personal times such as separation or divorce. At First Steps Family Mediation, we specialise in empowering our clients by using simple terms to explain the process and, of course, including your children's needs throughout the whole process to reach an amicable solution for childcare and financial arrangements.

How much does Mediation cost?

We may be able to offer you free mediation. The cost of mediation depends on your requirements and eligibility. Often, the mediation process will be completely free for you.

Legal Aid is available to fund Family Mediation across England. When one client receives Universal Credit, Income Support, or an income-based ESA or JSA, they will automatically qualify (subject to criteria checks).

Clients with low incomes may still be eligible, subject to a means assessment. When one client qualifies for legal aid, the other party will also get the MIAM and the first mediation joint appointment free of charge.

If you are not eligible for free mediation, there are other options to help make the process more affordable. We participate in the voucher scheme, which could pay up to £500 towards your mediation costs.
