If you want to be independent, it's important for you to have ways to travel. This could mean going to school or work, going to the doctor, or hanging out with your friends.

Free bus passes

You can apply for a bus pass for free travel when you reach the female state pension age (whether you're a man or a woman) or if you have certain disabilities. This gives you free travel on most local bus services in England between 9.30am and 11pm weekdays and all day at weekends and on public holidays. In Plymouth, you can also use it on park and ride services.

Driving or riding a motorbike

If you are interested in driving a car or riding a motorbike, it is important to read the driving and medical conditions page on the GOV.UK website. This page provides information on the requirements that must be met before you can obtain a licence to drive or ride.

Travel support for autistic young people

Days out: planning your day

It's important to think ahead when you are organising a day out with an autistic person.

The National Autistic Society has produced a guide that covers planning ahead, evidence of disability, eating out, and the National Key Scheme.

If you are looking to book a place to stay, then you might find the following links useful. Each website has the option to customise your search so you can find the perfect place for you and your family. Other websites may offer more appropriate services for your needs, as this is not a complete list.

Apps for people with autism

Although not specifically travel-related, the following apps can help people with autism and could make your journey easier to manage.
