The Oasis Project is a community hub that reduces social isolation through participation in personal development activities.
We are a friendly, inclusive internet cafe and resource centre in a deprived area, providing groups and support for local people.
The cafe sells reasonably priced, freshly cooked food.
The groups include:
- Job Club
- Healthy cooking classes
- Computer and literacy classes
- Coffee mornings
- CIEH Level 2 in Food Safety.
We run Messy Church (4.30 pm on the first Friday of the month), take school assemblies, and provide personal, practical, and prayerful support to anyone who needs a bit of help.
Why the community needs us
The Oasis Project caters to all ages, from toddlers to 90-year-olds.
Our impact on the community
Volunteers have moved into work or training as a result of working at the centre and have reported that they are healthier and less reliant on prescribed drugs for mental health issues. Local residents, including children and teenagers, have tried different types of healthy food during classes and have improved their diet. Volunteers and service users have increased levels of self-confidence.
