The Young Carers Alliance
The Community Youth Team are now part of the Young Carers Alliance.
The Alliance provides opportunities for collaboration, sharing best practices and together is a strong collective voice for young carers.

NSPCC Young Voices Project and PCC Young Carers
The Young Voices project works with young people to create campaigns that consider peer-to-peer problematic sexual behaviour and healthy relationships, examining the issue as they see it and generating with them ideas for campaigns to raise awareness and hopefully reduce problematic incidents.
The video was co-created by Plymouth Young Carers as part of NSPCC Together for Childhood (a place-based approach to preventing child abuse and neglect).
The outcome of all this hard work is outstanding and the message that was intended has truly been voiced.

Summer Programme supported by Fit and Fed
Our summer programme has been a huge success and 64 of our young carers signed up and attended each week.
There was a mix of offsite trips and centre-based sessions working with local graffiti artists and musicians from Plymouth Youth Music Service (PYMS).
Young Carers and Sail GP Community Engagement Programme
Earlier this year, 36 of our Young Carers had the amazing opportunity to experience sailing at Mount Batten Water sports & Activities Centre and had the opportunity to explore the official SailGP tech tent at Millbay.
They got to meet and spend time with the Great Britain sailing teams, take part in STEM activities and got to see a real F50 boat up close!
This was an exclusive activity, and very unique.
Everybody loved taking part in this unique opportunity and made some incredible memories on the water as well as having the chance to try something new.
Young Carers Night under the Stars
Youth Workers and 20 of our young carers recently had the opportunity to experience the special qualities of Dartmoor, benefit from the wonders of exploring a wild place and learn about Dartmoor and themselves.
Most importantly, they made amazing memories, had new experiences, and became one with nature.
QWELL
We are thrilled to announce that NHS Devon, Devon County Council. Plymouth City Council and Torbay Council have worked in partnership to commission Qwell (delivered by Kooth), to provide all adults aged 18+, living in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay with access to free Online digital mental health and wellbeing support.
Qwell is a free, safe and anonymous mental health and wellbeing online service. No referrals are required and there are no thresholds required to access the service.
The team at Kooth plc have arranged several webinars to introduce and officially launch Qwell to our key stakeholders across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

National booking system opens for Unpaid Carers
Please remember that the National Booking Service is now open for Unpaid Carers to book an Autumn Booster vaccination at local vaccination centres.
All unpaid Carers over 16 are eligible for an Autumn Covid Booster vaccination.
Please do everything you can to protect yourself and those you care for by booking in.

National Marine Park
An exciting National Marine Park opportunity for 16 to 18-year-olds hosted by the National Marine Aquarium, please feel free to share this free opportunity.
Meet the Marine Park is a fully funded 3-day experience for up to 24 young people. Each 3-day experience is jam-packed with activities all around Plymouth Sound.
There are 3 different experiences, each lasting 3 days.
- 1st October: Aquarium Adventure
- 8th October: Ocean Snap Shots
- 15th October: Explore Drakes Island
- 26th October: Aquarium Adventure.
- 27th October: Ocean Investigations
- 28th October: Explore Drakes Island

Hidden Harm Training
Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership is pleased to be able to announce new training dates for the Hidden Harm course.
The Harbour Centre in Plymouth at the Hyde Park House will deliver the training.
The course is suitable for anyone who is working with individuals/ families affected by substance use but may be especially useful for Social Workers, Family Support Workers, Youth Workers, Teachers and Teaching Assistants.

Trauma webinar
Creating the environment for recovery for displaced children, young people and families
Tuesday 11 October from 5 pm to 6.30 pm
David Trickey, Co-Director of the UK Trauma Council (UKTC), will chair this Zoom webinar which aims to provide professionals with a better understanding of the impact of traumatic events such as exposure to war, conflict and forced migration. Including information on how to identify signs of trauma, and how to best support traumatised children and young people, the event includes contributions from keynote speaker, Rachel Calam, Professor Emerita in Psychology and Mental Health at the University of Manchester.
Beck Ferrari, UKTC Clinical Content Lead, will give an overview of the resource portfolio currently in development by the UKTC, supporting professionals working with refugee and displaced children, young people and families.
New online hub for cost of living support
The rising cost of living means many families are finding things tough at the moment.
Rising household bills can be a real worry but remember help is available for those who are struggling.
We've put together a help hub on our website to help families find the support they need. It signposts a wide range of support - from welfare benefits such as universal credit to where to get help with gas and electricity bills.
The hub also includes information on help with council tax, housing costs and how to access food banks, as well as how to contact voluntary organisations working across the city.
