Our school vision is rooted in John 10:10; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. We want all children at St Andrew's to thrive and have full access to every aspect of school life, regardless of any physical difficulty, sensory impairment, or other need. We ensure that all children receive high quality teaching in all lessons.

The level of SEND support we provide at St Andrew's is fluid and will vary from child to child. We adopt a graduated approach that is informed by regular assessments and discussions with staff, the child, parents and other professionals. We aim to identify SEND at the earliest opportunity so that we can provide your child with appropriate support and give them the best chance of success.

Our provision for pupils with SEND varies as each child has individual learning targets. We are passionate about pupil voice and always include both the child and parents in their SEND journey. We endeavour to make any changes sensitively and with minimum disruption to the child. We may provide additional intervention programmes delivered by trained Teaching Assistants in small groups or 1:1, we might adapt the environment, provide additional resources, or we may enlist the specialist support of other professionals. We also fund our own speech & language therapist for half a day each week. Some 1:1 intervention may take place outside the classroom. If this is the case, we try to ensure that the intervention is short term, closely monitored and that the child still has access to the full curriculum.

We follow a Plan, Do, Review model of support and the child's progress is closely monitored, reviewed regularly, and discussed with child and parents. For some children who have more complex needs, we deliver a person-centred approach through Team Around Me meetings; a multi-agency response where several professionals work collaboratively with the parents and child.

All staff at St Andrew's have received training in Emotional Logic. We encourage children throughout the school to express their feelings and find solutions using this approach. We also have two ELSA trained teaching assistants who can work 1:1 or with friendship groups. This practical approach works particularly well for children who are experiencing social and communication difficulties.

We understand that there are times when a child's social and emotional wellbeing can become a barrier to their learning. We buy in specialist support from MAST; a team of professionals consisting of play therapists, educational psychologists, learning mentors and counsellors, who can support children and families in school and in the home to overcome these barriers and help a child achieve their potential.
