Most of our children come to us from St. Mary's C of E Infant School and leave us to attend one of the local secondary schools in Plympton: Ridgeway or Hele's School. Some attend Ivybridge, and others go on to one of the grammar schools in Plymouth. All Plympton schools are extremely popular and have a strong reputation both locally and across the city.
We are small enough to have a 'family' feel yet large enough to take part in the full range of age-appropriate activities that are necessary for a school to be a vibrant and active community.
The academy building hides beautiful and vast outside grounds where squirrels, ducks, newts, and hedgehogs thrive and delight the children. We are very lucky to have our own vast adventure playground, two large play areas, an environmental area with an outdoor classroom, an orienteering trail, and a sports field. The school was built in the late 1960s but has been refurbished to a high standard.
Ensuring pupils achieve the very highest level they can in all aspects of learning, social development, and life skills are clear and ever-present priorities for the school. We put learning and progress at the heart of all that we do.
Staff, governors, and the Parents, Teachers, and Friends Association (PTFA) are all committed to providing the best possible learning opportunities for pupils, and everyone works exceptionally hard to ensure this happens every day.
Working successfully in partnerships with both parents and other organisations within our locality is an essential aspect of ensuring our vision is achieved and is a high priority this year as we enter a very important part of our journey out of Special Measures. Our standards are high, and our children are happy to come to school.

We believe all children deserve the very best possible start and we aim to enrich the lives of all our pupils.
All children have needs and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported at Old Priory Junior Academy. This full support will be provided to each child who has SEND requirements with well thought out strategies to overcome any barriers to learning.
Parents are fully involved and the progress of children with SEND is monitored towards meeting specifically identified goals and targets. Members of staff at Old Priory are delegated effectively to match the always changing needs of the school and is reviewed regularly. All staff play a part in providing opportunities to all pupils.
We have an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant ) at Old Priory who intervenes with pupils if they need extra individual support. We also buy into MAST (Multi-Agency Support Team) in Plymouth, through which one of the excellent resources we receive is our Learning Mentor. This role is designed to unpick and overcome barriers that pupils have to learning.
Plymouth uses an orange 'Local Offer icon' to show services that define themselves as suitable for children and young people with SEND. These are part of Plymouth's SEND Local Offer. We recommend that you contact the service provider to make sure the service is suitable for your child or young person.
